Who We Are

M.F. McHugh Education Centre provides English-language educational programs and services to students who are in Education, Community and Partnership (ECP) programs, The focus of the ECP programs is to provide education for students whose circumstances or needs are such that they are unable to attend their community school. Our students are given the opportunity to do an academic placement, within a clinical setting.

Funding for our centre is provided by the Ministry of Education through the Grants for Student Needs, in partnership with the Ministry of Community, Children and Social Services, and the Ministry of Health. The Ottawa Catholic School Board is the lead board in the coordination and administration of McHugh.

M.F. McHugh is currently located in 15 different sites across the city of Ottawa, each working closely with one of 7 treatment partners.  This partnership allows the student to continue with an educational experience while they receive the treatment deemed necessary.

We serve children and youth between the ages of 4 and 21 years of age. Our students come from the OCSB, the OCDSB, as well as from outside school boards. Each of them, has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), with an associated alternative learning goal. The length of their stay in a McHugh program is determined by the treatment partner. Our 63 staff, including two administrators, and seven lead teachers, serves over 500 students.
